The Fragility of It All
Monday, May 22, 2006 by Sam Davidson
As I mentioned last week, peace deals are never done deals. Lasting peace is a long process -- unending even -- and a small breach can throw the whole thing into the trash.
Reports early this morning mention a possible violation of the peace deal signed less than a month ago.
Of course, the Sudanese government is denying the accusations (just as they have denied involvement in or support of the Janjaweed’s systematic killings of the Darfur people). But, as always, those on the ground are telling the story that needs telling so that the world can see just how bad things are and how far things need to progress in order for the displaced millions to once again know the meaning of the word ‘home.’
Pray for the peace of Darfur.
